Goleta Community Plan Update

goletaObjectives and Results: The objective of this project is to update the 1993 Goleta Community Plan (GCP) in collaboration with the Goleta Valley Planning Advisory Committee (GVPAC).   This effort will modernize the GCP by incorporating the community’s vision established by the Goleta Visioning Committee in 2006 and updating the planning goals and objectives to facilitate the community’s current and future prosperity.

Background: The Goleta Community Plan (GCP) was adopted by the Board of Supervisors in 1993. Since its adoption 15 years ago, new development has occurred consistent with the GCP, public services have expanded, modest population growth has occurred, regional planning dynamics have changed, and, most significantly, the City of Goleta incorporated. Issues of regional concern to the South Coast, such as the jobs/housing balance, transportation and environmental protection, have provided the momentum to revisit where, when, and how the community desires to grow. In response to these changes and concerns, the 1993 Goleta Community Plan is now subject to an update to become a plan for the unincorporated Goleta Valley.

Process: As the primary step in the update process, the 2nd District will appoint the Goleta Valley Planning Advisory Committee (GVPAC) to uphold the community vision for the future and advise the County during the update to the Community Plan.

The final product, in the form of an updated Goleta Valley Community Plan, will be prepared by the Office of Long Range Planning with consideration of the recommendations made by the GVPAC, presented to the larger community for review and comment, and ultimately forwarded to County decision-makers for adoption.
