Los Alamos Community Plan Update

Project Description

Objective and Results: The objective of this project was an update the 1994 Los Alamos Community Plan in collaboration with the Los Alamos Planning Advisory Committee (LAPAC). A primary focus of the plan update was to focus on revitalization of the Bell Street corridor into a vibrant mixed-use downtown. This update enabled the community to modernize its planning goals and objectives to foster the local economic growth the community desires. This project was facilitated by the Planning and Development Department Long Range Planning Division
Process: The Los Alamos Planning Advisory Committee (LAPAC) was established in 2006 to provide community input for this project, to review individual development projects in Los Alamos, and to recommend a Plan Update to the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors. The Board of Supervisors authorized initiation of the environmental review at a public hearing held on September 23, 2008. A Draft Environmental Impact Report was released for public review and comment on September 25, 2009. The LAPAC held a series of meetings from October 2009 through April 2010 and adopted a resolution recommending the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors adopt the Final Plan. On October 13, 2010, the Planning Commission voted 5-0 to recommend the Board of Supervisors adopt the Final Plan . The Board of Supervisors approved the Los Alamos Community Plan and certified the Final EIR by a vote of 5-0 on February 15, 2011.
