Mission Canyon Residential Design Guidelines
The
unincorporated Mission Canyon area of Santa Barbara County is known for its
considerable beauty, with its expansive views of the Santa Ynez Mountains,
the City of Santa Barbara and the Santa Barbara Channel. Mission Canyon is
a rural/urban interface area where development pressures, along with efforts
to preserve the unique attributes which define the area, point to the importance
of developing Design Guidelines as a tool to guide decision-makers, property
owners, architects and County staff as they face these sometimes conflicting
goals.
The purpose of the Residential Design Guidelines is to maintain the high quality of the Mission Canyon neighborhoods by developing reasonable, practical, and objective guidance to assist residents, home-owners, and designers in identifying the key design characteristics and components that define the character of a neighborhood which can be used as a guide in designing new or remodeled single family homes.
On March 21, 2007, the MCPAC formed a Design Guidelines Subcommittee comprised of three MCPAC members to assist staff with preparing a draft of the Design Guidelines.
