Montecito Planning Area
Montecito
is an unincorporated portion of Santa Barbara County located in the southeast.
The Montecito Planning Area generally lies between the Pacific Ocean and
the foothills of the Santa Ynez Mountains, with the City of Santa Barbara
to the west and the unincorporated community of Summerland to the east. The
southern portion lies within the state coastal zone. Montecito
is one of the older settlements in Santa Barbara County. The area was
originally settled by the Spanish in 1700’s and 1800’s with land
grants given or sold to retiring soldiers of the Santa Barbara Presidio.
